What is taboo?

Taboo is a concept used to refer to anything that, according to social conventions, religious beliefs or mere superstition, is considered prohibited. As such, the word comes from the Polynesian "taboo", which means "the forbidden."

Taboos can be related to different activities such as cannibalism, matricide, abortion and bodily modifications, etc ...

Changes of Body:

People tend to seek beauty, perfection. Such a quest for such "perfection" is done by culturally accepted forms, in order to reach the standards imposed by capitalist society. However, there are other people who are not satisfied with what is culturally expected of them and go beyond these limits to achieve incredible bodies, often with painful techniques that involve a taboo.

In the changes of body can be found different techniques as: the tattoo, which is a process of micropigmentation; scarification, which are marks on the skin by wounds; branding, which are marks on the skin by burns; implants that are inserted into the body; piercing, which are accessories in the body and expansions, which consist of enlarging existing piercings of piercings. (López, Ricardo 2007).

On the other side, the  changes of body are not just an image, or a scar is more than that, for many people it is a only way of communicating and making others understand what they want, a culture, a way of thinking, acting, everyone in a unique and different way, with different  perspectives on what society is, what it means. For these people it is an art that defines them as people and the effects they feel together and think.
